Quilters Quilting Quilts!

Quilters Quilting Quilts!
Quilters Quilting Quilts!
Yesterday was a bit of a challenge –
Remember that macular doc appointment I mentioned yesterday?
It wasn’t until 11:30 but we left the house early to swing by the retreat, feed the kitties and check on the retreaters as well as check the mail for a package we were expecting.
I arrived to find that the Quilters of the Night had INDEED Quilted late into the night – some were still sleeping, and others were happily enjoying the front porch rocking chairs, which I am always so glad to see.

I took photos of design walls quickly, because I knew that things would be finished and put away, or at least set aside and moved on to other things – click, click, click –
By the time I got back this quilt on the design wall was FINISHED!

These guys don’t mess around!
However, I don’t know the pattern for this one if there is one. A layer cake design maybe? Will find out later today.
I headed off to the clinic – got there half an hour ahead of time because I thought I needed it due to new insurance information I had to give them.
They were backed up and jacked up!  I sat in the waiting area after check in for more than an hour not even sure if I was still “on the list” after patient after patient was brought back to the back.
Whatever. I understand. Should have brought hexies, but this is a dilate your eyes appointment? Usually sitting around still able to see doesn’t happen that often.
At one point I heard the sky open up and the rain coming down in torrents. Hubster Dave had run to Lowe’s for some things thinking I would be done by the time he got back.  Nope.  He was waiting in the car in the parking lot in that torrential rain. No complaints.  We need that rain so badly.
Now here’s the thing – Big waiting room.  Loads of patients and people there with the patients.
Woman on phone.  Talking in a loud voice directly behind me because the rows of chairs are back to back…I give her a look.  Twice.  She keeps talking on and on and on about this, that, and everything –
What is with this? Why are we like this?  The worst is in a public restroom stall on speaker phone.  This wasn’t on speaker phone.
But why can’t waiting rooms just be quiet? Why do we have to listen to this one way conversation?
I’m trying to find my patience and compassion in this situation, but as the waiting got longer and longer and I still wasn’t seen I was just getting more tense.
Finally they called me back.
The good news is.  No change.  I’m stable.  They are happy that my A1C has come down because diabetes effects eye health.  I have things to watch out for, and if any of these things happen I’m supposed to call right away.  But I can come back in a year.
Oh, and that lady?  As I left the exam room, crossing the waiting room to get to the exit – yes. She was STILL YAPPING!  Heaven help me.  Maybe that is her way of coping with whatever is going on in her life, but talking on the phone in public needs to stop.  This is why phone booths were a thing!
I spent the rest of the day wearing sun glasses everywhere as dilated eyes are so sensitive to everything.
I kept my sunglasses on while eating a late lunch because the exam took so long.
I wore the glasses all the way back home, and then over to the retreat late afternoon to check on the retreaters.

This came as a precut kit!  Perfect for retreat sewing.
I didn’t stay long.  The eyes were tired and still dilated and I wanted to just go home and lie down and rest them with my eyes closed.

The rain came so hard and fierce that we got over 2” in a very short period of time.  It also took the petals down on the front Rhododendron.  She was so beautiful this year!  I’m sad to see her blooms go.
After a good nap, we headed over to Grayson Highlands General Store for some toe tapping Bluegrass:

It’s every two weeks, Thursday evening. Loved it! The talent in this area is just phenomenal.  Hopefully we’ll be back again in another two weeks.
We stayed a couple of hours and headed on home. It was a full day of not accomplishing much, but still getting some good news and that was worth it. Eyes are holding their own.  Hooray.
Rain is continuing through the day.  I don’t think I’ll be getting that driveway hike in today – and that’s okay.
The quilters are quilting inside and I can spend time with them.
