Quilt District Over The Rail!

Quilt District Over The Rail!
Quilt District Over The Rail!

Three cheers for these very talented (And absolutely super fun!) ladies and their glorious quilts displayed over the porch rail at Quiltville Inn!
We were discussing how many times they’ve come – through rain and snow and bouncing around dates depending on where Easter week falls.
We had fabulous weather all the way through Saturday!

Beautiful beautiful!
The quilt on the left (unknown – if you know please leave info in the comments section below – thank you!) has been made as a donation quilt.  Super fun!
The finished quilt top is called Sovereignty.  It’s not available as a stand alone pattern yet, but if you would like to take this workshop, Tara is teaching it at a retreat in Missouri next March. Info here.  You’ll have a great time while mastering foundation paper piecing and curved piecing for great results.

The red quilt on the left is a variation on Tara’s Legacy Wheel pattern. And who doesn’t love a fabulous scrappy string quilt?

Quilt District Over The Rail!
Hooray for the rainbow!
ON the left is a Kawandi inspired quilt. On the right – some colorful scrappy improv blocks.

If you have never heard of Kawandi or would like to know more about the techniques, here’s a lovely video I found on YouTube showing how one quilter makes hers.

There are various ways, some with batting, some without – but the whole process is intriguing because they are pieced from the outside edge into the center.

I enjoyed the video very much!

Lozenges with sashing!
Such a great way to use large and splashy prints, and the eggplant corners and skinny sashing mean there are no points to match.
Do you remember when Lozenges was our Leader & Ender project? You’ll find that under the Free Patterns tab.

Two sisters, two quilts!
On the left “Triple Tulips” All hand pieced, hand appliqued, and hand quilted.  WOW! More on the yellow quilt below.

And then there were TWO Triple Tulip Quilts!

I took a close up photo of the yellow one because the over the rail photo was catching the sun a bit.
I know this block has many names – but the most beautiful thing is that it is hand pieced and hand quilted!

Leaves are emerging.
Dogwood is blooming
Quilters are fabulously quilting –

It was a fantastic weekend!
Quilt District Over The Rail!
Speaking of dogwoods – this was my view from the Bedroom 2 window yesterday as I went about putting clean loads of sheets back onto beds.

Quilt District Over The Rail!
Such a favorite time of year!

In the “in between load times” I was supervised by this floof of a Hazel –

Quilt District Over The Rail!
This is going to take a while!
I thought it was going to take forever to do enough blocks for just a border – but now for a whole quilt?

Mickey & Minnie made it in!

And this is just plain fun, even if it takes forever.
What’s the rush? There is no hurry.
There is only “Just sew.”
On the list of special things happening –
Yesterday was Casden’s 10th birthday!  DOUBLE DIGITS! He spent yesterday celebrating his birthday evening with family on Ashlyn’s side.
Tonight we are meeting up with them for dinner to continue the celebration because double digits is a big deal.
In a phone conversation with Jeff yesterday to solidify our plan he said, “I can’t believe he is 10 already. I’ve been with him since he turned 3.”
To hear the sensitivity and love in my grown man-child’s voice just warmed my heart.
I told him, “Son, that’s how it was with you, too.  One day you were a baby, the next you were 36. You are doing an amazing job.”
Okay, I’m getting all teary just typing this out.  There is just so much love for this little family.

Quiltville Quote of the Day –

I woke up to 31° this morning. What kind of ridiculousness is this?

The good news is – The sun is out and we are warming up from here.

The next retreat group arrives tomorrow and I can’t wait.

A huge pile of scraps is waiting for me to sit at the machine today with dinner out to celebrate tonight.

I also love this simple album block quilt. Wouldn’t it look great in recycled shirts?

Have a terrific Tuesday, everyone –
