We have to get up and out of our chairs and move and get some fresh air and vitamin D sunshine.

Yes. Ugh.  Yes.
But don’t the woods look magical?

And yes, it’s still dreadfully uphill.
I keep telling myself that it is GOOD FOR ME. My legs are still complaining.  And I’ll do it again today.

If I hadn’t have done it yesterday morning I would have missed the Mountain Laurel bursting in the bloom!
Aren’t that green and the coral pink of the blossoms just beautiful together?

I fit my walk in (12 minutes – I rested mid walk and timed myself) before heading over to the clinic for a blood draw for my A1C. 
I know I’m not the only type 2 diabetic amongst us. If you are like me, raise your hand. Thank you for making me not feel so alone.
When first diagnosed I was so hush hush about it.  A lot of it felt like guilt and shame.  Embarassment that I “Did this to myself” That’s no way to live.
But here is what I know – Quilting is a sedentary sport. It’s not good for our diabetes.  I need to move several times a day. So rather than shooting for a huge 2 1/2 mile walk in the middle of the day, I’m doing 3 short 10-ish minute walks after each meal to get things moving.  It’s supposed to help with blood sugar spikes.

A short, 10–15 minute walk after meals allows muscles to use glucose for energy, reducing spikes, improving insulin sensitivity, and helping manage long-term HbA1c levels. Consistent walking can lower glucose for up to 24 hours.

And for those lucky enough to not be diabetic – this is good for you too.  It doesn’t have to be extreme.  Walk to the mailbox and back if you can. 10 minutes after eating.
It’s what they used to call a taking a “constitutional” back in the day.
