Get The Ball Rolling!

Get The Ball Rolling!

Nola’s Bonniacs are in the house!

I’m so excited that they are back for another round of retreat fun.
But do you want to know what this getting older thing is like? Or are you already here with me?
Last week I *KNEW* we were having a Moonflower workshop with Nola’s group.
I reconfirmed it with myself.  And then I put it out of my mind – or it fell through the black hole -because I showed up yesterday on what was supposed to be workshop day #1 just  breezing on in, looking at what everyone was making….

And I was gifted this hoodie sweatshirt from the group:

Oh, shoot!!
“Are we starting our workshop today??”
“Yes.  Yes we are.”
Okay – give me about 20 minutes!

I had instant help with hanging the quilt in the front hall.  I ran to the garage and got the folding table we use for extra cutting space and demos.  I ran to the studio to grab up sample fabric to cut –
Whew!  We got a bit of a late start, but DANG.  Where is my brain?  I could make some snarky comment about the OBGYN removing it through the speculum at my yearly exam the day before – at least I felt like that thing had been inserted way up to my head….
But the truth is I’m just going in circles with everything lately.
I’m glad we could make a quick recovery.

Triangles were happening.
Oh, so many triangles!

And we went over different methods of getting the job done.  Of course, my preferred method is cutting triangles with my Essential Triangle Tool.  I like that I can cut and sew from pre-cut strips saving me fabric and time because one dog ear is already cut off when we start sewing.
And folks are welcome to use any method they are comfortable with, be it Magic 8 or Thangles – what matters is the unfinished size of the unit.
Sew, ladies sew!

We need variety!  Lots of variety!

And we’ve got to press and measure these puppies to be sure they are going to be the same size as our fabric squares we are also cutting.

Pressing, pressing and more pressing.

In several different color pairings.

Moonflower also makes a great leader & ender project because you can use those cut triangle pairs as leaders & enders while working on other things and when you have enough – you can make some blocks to see how your progress is moving along.

Contrast is the key!!

Some also brough last year/s Hamilton Gardens workshop project back again this year to work on in between things.

Looking great!

These pieces are ready to assemble!
I also love using baking trays for keeping things organized at my machine side.  They easily transport back and forth from the cutting table and the edges keep things from sliding off.

Four Patch Fun Leader & Ender blocks becoming a quick and delightful baby quilt!
So….needless to say – my plans for my own machine time didn’t happen yesterday. I needed to skedaddle at 3pm for a chiropractor visit. And while out it was grabbing all of the things needed for home to last while I am gone in Idaho for a week.
Everything is restocked and that is a load off my mind.
There was a little bit of hexie sewing last night. But not much….just enough to make me feel like I had at least done something with needle and thread during the day.
The reteaters have designated today as their quilt shop hop day – so more Moonflower making will happen in between and around that. Some are staying at the retreat and NOT shopping, so they’ll get more done and I hope they enjoy their quilt productive time.
As for me….all bets are off as I just show up and see how THIS day unfolds! LOL!
Any plans for your Friday?
