Quilters, Quilting….and Cows!

Quilters, Quilting....and Cows!

The summer solstice happened last night at 10:42 pm!
Were you up for it?
I was NOT! HA! But it’s still an occurrence that I Both rejoice in (warm summer nights! Yay!) and one that makes me a bit sad…days will now get shorter from here day by day by day.
How did we celebrate the solstice?
We quilted of course!  And with summer comes more opportunity for rocking and stitching, relaxing on the porch at Quiltville Inn.
Quilters, Quilting....and Cows!
Four of us got in another road hike up Roundhouse Road…and look! The mountain rhodies are blooming!  Right on time for 4th of July.  They tend to bloom much later than the big domestic one that’s in front of the inn.
These bloom clusters are smaller and baby lotion pink, almost white.  But they are blooming!

3 quilters, a waterfall, and blooming rhodies!

All the way up to the sate line –

Cows were resting in the shade of this big tree – until we disturbed them. Sorry, buddies – We’ll leave you be so you can reclaim your shade back.

Upon our return home these two were found lounging on the back porch.  I don’t blame them!
There are several very warm days coming up in the future.  There will be more shady porch time, and when that is too much – the quilters head back inside to the AC and more machine time.
Some things happening around here:

Across the table is this little cutie.
I love seeing so many featherweights on retreat!

This is a great way to showcase a large floral print!

Something very Amishy looking!
The quilting will be the showcase here.

Meanwhile in the QPO Studio –

Quilters, Quilting....and Cows!
I chose an olive-y, not quite brown, not quite green, mostly in-between print to bind my recently machine quilting Open Window quilt.
I had 1/2 yard which was just enough – and I’m happy to find a place for this fabric to land.
It has a very vintage look, it compliments the plaids, stripes and prints in the quilt without shouting too loudly, and gives a nice finish to the edge of a quilt that doesn’t have a wide fabric border.

I now have several nights of relaxing binding flipping ahead!
Be watching for the Open Window PDF pattern to drop this fall – stay tuned!
And here’s a bit of Iceland for you:

We were on our way to see the sights around Iceland’s Golden Circle!

One of our stops was Thingvellir National Park:

Again, it was an amazing trip and I’m still going through photos and reliving all that we did while we were in Iceland.  It truly was magical!
Find out more about my future trips HERE. I’d love to have you join us!
Today?  Haircut.  Most needed.  I’ve put it off for 3 weeks…it’s time. Especially as this summer heat and humidity creep in.
More time with the quilters – it’s a rest day and no road hikes are planned for today.
How about you?
