Quilt On, Quilters!

Quilt On, Quilters!
Quilt On, Quilters!
Our weird weather patterns continue in Southwestern Virginia –
To the east of us there were tornado watches and high winds.  We had intermittent drippy drizzle for what feels like the umpteenth day in a row.
I thought I could beat the predicted rain by sneaking in a road hike while the quilters were brunching.  I had gotten as far as throwing myself in my car…driving down to where I usually park to walk along the creek, but as soon as I was out of the car, the rain started.  Rats!

But you know what quilters do when the weather is bad?  The same thing they do on any other given retreat day – they sew!

Quilt On, Quilters!
As long as we are inside and not out in the bad weather, we are happy!
Quilt On, Quilters!
Scrappy four patches and half-square triangles twisted and turned for the win!

I love how the white pumpkins glow on a field of midnight black.

Sweet little stars are being assembled here.
Oh, how I love simple traditional blocks worked in pretty fabrics!

More little sawtooth stars – different quilter, different project!

Modern sampler blocks on this design wall.
Love the fussy cut animals!

There’s also been several Leader & Ender quilts coming together – This one getting its final border.

Speaking of County Clare…Melody tagged me in her progress post about hers.  Check it out:

This is the same layout I used, but she has added additional colors and look at the effect she is getting!

I love seeing how your Leader & Ender projects are coming along.  I’m prepping everything for our next challenge which will release in early July.

My own day was spent “mostly” at my desk after my hope of getting a walk in was dashed by the rain.
The upside to that – I have Fireweed almost ready to release – it will be ready for when I return from Iceland. Whew!
Late afternoon I did a quick count and found I only needed FOUR MORE half dark -half-light string blocks to finish what I needed there.
That lead to cleaning up my string mess and putting the colored strings away leaving the neutrals out for the next round.
I’m going to need a mess of neutral shirt strings, so I did some pulling of shirt parts and sliced a bunch down into various widths so I have something to start with.  I’ll add more as needed.
I’m envying those who have a good collection of neutral shirts to work with. The nearest “big blue bin” Goodwill clearance by the pound is about 2 hours from me and I don’t have time to go on a shirt hunt.
Small checks, plaids, and narrow stripes and prints on neutral are hard to find when it comes to shirts, and yes – I always look for 100% cotton.  Not a fan of working with polyester blends.
I’ll throw in some strings from the “regular” neutral string bin if I think they work well enough.  Some novelties and shirting type prints will be fun.
THIS WEEKEND is the absolute deadline for getting my kits finished for my upcoming Iceland trip!  I leave one week from TODAY!

And if you are still on the fence over coming with me to Germany/Switzerland/France and attending the European Patchwork show in Alsace in September, the time to get off the fence is now!  Space is limited and filling quickly.  Find out more HERE.
There is a discount if you mention “Mother’s Day” when you reserve your spot – good through June 10, 2025.

Last night’s hexie stitching.
Hubster Dave was out with the guys playing cornhole.  That meant that *I* was in charge of the remote and what was playing.
I am loving my subscription to Brit Box and started watching Death Valley.  It’s a new series and there are only 2 episodes currently, but new ones drop on Thursdays so I will be waiting for them to drop the next one.
I love “who-dunnits” with quirky characters and plot lines that weave in, around and through until we finally put all of the pieces together – kind of like putting quilt pieces together.

Quiltville Quote of the Day –

You may feel that your hands are tied with things out of our control and there is nothing you can do. ⁣

But there are things we CAN do:

Comfort those in need. Check in on your neighbor. Take care of your family. Follow the lead of those who are helping.

And please remember to care of yourself too.

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone –
