Hello, October!

This was the scene last night as we went to dinner with friends in Galax. FUN!
I’d like to say I like fall, best of all – but it doesn’t last long enough and I know what is coming around the corner. AACCCK.
But I’m here to enjoy whatever fall beauty we have left.
I spent some time yesterday getting all of the autumn decor out at Quiltville Inn – and it is fun to have autumn and Halloween stuff out and about for the month of October.
More on my autumn inspiration project in progress.
The photo above from our weekend walk, sharing the colors I am seeing around me.
A section of assembled units below…my interpretation of the colors from the photo above it.
yeah – that X-Plus quilt is officially on back burner now. There is no going back to it at this point.
I’m feeling driven and inspired.
It has no name, though tile floor inspired.
It has no due date or deadline.
There will not be a pattern until the quilt is done – and this might be one I hand quilt through the winter. We shall see.
I have SO MANY pieces of toasty-tan-beige-taupe and I love that I can dig into them here.
The greens are yellow-green to olive using the photo above loosely as inspiration. There are so many wonderful greens in fall.
The rusty shades of fallen leaves have allowed me to pull in the reproduction madder prints that have been so shoved to the back of my stash. There are some rust batiks too, and some more modern/contemporary prints. I’m playing by color family, not by genre.
My motus operandi:
Piece a huge variety of half-square triangles in all of the colorways I need and then make blocks using them until I can go no further.
Then it’s time to make more. I’m not counting anything at this point.
