Dogwood Days Gift-Away!

Happy Spring, indeed!
Yesterday’s drive from my home in Southwestern Virginia to Boone North Carolina for my yearly check up with my retinal/macular specialist (This doesn’t feel so special!) gave me the opportunity to enjoy not only a gorgeous drive but to stop and actually see those pink dogwoods up close.
It’s the pink dogwoods that have inspired my Dogwood Daze quilt, and while making it through the long winter months, I kept my mind on the promise of spring that was coming, and the all too short-lived season of pink blooming trees.
Looking up from down below –
Yes, pink dogwoods are my absolute favorite –
And the four-petaled beauties are definitely captured in the design of Dogwood Daze,
Even Lola looks grand in pink!
If there were only one kind of quilt that I was allowed to make for the rest of my life – I would choose string piecing hands down because it is so versatile, and always exciting to see how things land.
For this quilt I chose color families of Pink, Yellow, Aqua and Neutral – pushing my boundaries within each color family to give me as much variety as possible.
As with my other string quilts like Eclipsed and Huka Falls strings are sewn to paper foundations, cut into shapes, de-papered and placed on another printed paper foundation for some “sewing on the line” kind of paper piecing to get seams in specific places, and then more strings are added from the front to fill the space. Whew! (Pardon the run on sentence!)
Things can look kind of hairy until the trim up takes place!
Oh, the things that are sewn in here!
Including so many aqua strips and strings that you sent to replenish my aqua string bin after Huka Falls depleted this color!
*NOTE* There will be more quilts in this color – I now have an abundance! Thank You!
Dogwood Daze was machine quilted with a pale aqua thread in an edge-to-edge design called Windy Swirls by Kalynda Grant.
I love the motion that the quilting gives to all of the straight line piecing.
And yes – there is introductory pricing AND a Gift-Away!
I have placed a 25% automatic discount on Dogwood Daze through 4/30/25 – no coupon code needed.
And I will be drawing for two winners who will each receive a Dogwood Daze
They also have pulled gorgeous fabrics in colors inspired by Dogwood Daze to enhance your stash. Check them out!
Each fabric roll includes 20 different fabrics approximately 8” X 22” – a great variety!
We will draw for our winners on Monday 4/28/25.
Good luck everyone!
Front yard dogwood at the inn –
I love how this old tree blooms a very pale yellow first with the edges rimmed in pink.
I don’t know how old this tree is, but I look forward to it blooming every year. When fully open the blossoms will be much more white.
But as with last year, I think I’ll miss most of the beauty while visiting my mom and family in Idaho!
So here we are at Friday. Some will be celebrating as Good Friday heading into Easter weekend. Some are in the midst of Passover observances also winding up on Sunday.
I know we will all be enjoying spring and rebirth after a long winter season.
It’s a great time to appreciate the beauty of nature and the world around us.
Quiltville Quote of the Day –
It’s been a week of checkups and medical appointments.
Yesterday’s eye dilation was worth it – I’ve been told my MacTel 2 is stable. “Come back in a year.”
I’m still waiting on the results of the bloodwork, the female exam, and the clavicle x-ray – and I had to laugh because this was me attempting to do the early online check-in routine!
If it is like Wheel of Fortune – did I win anything?
I think it’s going to be warm enough for a hike this afternoon. That’s a win.
Happy Friday, everyone!
