Bloom Gift-Away!

Happy Friday, everyone!

You asked, I’m answering….it’s nearing Spring and it’s time to get a bit of Bloom into our lives!

Bloom was the small embroidery and patchwork project I designed for my Australia trip this past January – can I have been home for nearly 6 weeks already?

I’m watching the bulbs shoot up in my own yard here in Southwestern Virginia, and I know several of you have mentioned that you are seeing things wake up in your own flower beds.

It’s so hopeful, isn’t it?

So I thought now would be as good of a time as any to get this out there to you.

Even though the project was presented to my Australian travelers in January, this project started for me in September on our Craftours trip to Kenya.

Here I am poolside in the afternoon enjoying live music from a band playing across the way in a bandstand, a cool drink at the ready and just enjoying the lovely surroundings while getting some stitches in.

I love to do my embroidery using 12 wt cotton, but you can also use 3 strands of standard embroidery floss if you wish.

Bloom takes just 2 colors and I used a dark green for the stems and leaves, and a variegated pink for the blossoms.

There is no need to mark the design on your background fabric – no tracing against a window or lightbox needed! I use printable Sulky Stick n Stitch in my printer, and then just peel the backing and stick it to my foundation fabric.

Simply stitch on the printed lines – the overlay washes away when your embroidery is complete!

It leaves no ink or sticky residue behind. The Sulky Stick n Stitch also adds enough body to my foundation fabric that I don’t need to use a hoop when embroidering.

Of course, you could use a hoop if you want one.

Of course, I used my Essential Triangle Tool for the half-square triangles and flying geese units in the tulip borders – but traditional rotary cutting directions are also provided. You can use any method you prefer to make these units – the unfinished and finished sizes are given in the pattern as well as several options to make them your way.

I quilted Bloom with beige thread in an edge to edge design called Nemish’s Feather Grande.
