A Whole Lotta Quilting Going On!

A Whole Lotta Quilting Going On!
A Whole Lotta Quilting Going On!
I learn something new at every retreat.
Like how even the pieces that *I* throw away can end up as an amazing useful piece of art!
Take a look at this table mat.  It’s like a mini quilt, but isn’t.
It’s got a layer of batting, backing, and then all kinds of slivers and trimmings placed on top of the batting, and netting/tulle added to the top and  machine quilted through all to hold everything in place like a quilt  and bound!

A Whole Lotta Quilting Going On!
These are the slivers and trimmings from LAST year’s retreaters all sewn in to one big memory of a very good time.
It keeps the machine from vibrating on the table, and is a soft place to land for seam rippers and snips that won’t go rolling.
Everyone had fun picking out just what scraps were theirs from the year previous!

Quilters were still working hard on their last full day of retreat –

A Whole Lotta Quilting Going On!
More projects on design walls had sprung up over night –

And a constant stream of newly sewn blocks were added to projects started at retreat!

I went home to one project at this station, and returned to find another in full swing!
This quilt is called Avery Sue and is found in this book:

And though it wasn’t really warm – four of us were set on going up to the Appalachian Trail in searech of ponies.  It was on bucket lists and we needed to do it.

“But if they are wild, why are they being fed?”
This herd is maintained. They get their hooves checked, they get vaccinations, and up here in the winter there is so much ice and snow that they can’t forage.
These mamas are VERY pregnant right now and will be foaling soon.

Woah, mama!
There are also some salt licks for nutrients they need that nature doesn’t provide in the long winters.

The grass is starting to grow and is greening up and soon they won’t need hay anymore.

@quiltville_bonnie First time up to the Appalachian trail where it crosses Grayson Highlands State Park this year! 🐎 #quiltville #Bonniekhunter #hiking #apalachiantrail #virginia ♬ The warmth of nature – masumi&mugi
