Gathering of Quilters!

Gathering of Quilters!
Gathering of Quilters!
They came from New Jersey and North Carolina with a sprinkling of West Virginia and beyond –
And here they are gathered on the porch or brunch enjoying the start of a lovely day.
This group is August Quiltvillians 2.0 and I’m thrilled to have them back.
Many arrived later Wednesday evening so I didn’t get a chance to say hello until yesterday morning.
It’s always great seeing some familiar faces!

Let the retreat sewing begin!

Gathering of Quilters!
Over the course of one day one block became:

The beginnings of a quilty neighborhood!
Gathering of Quilters!
Halloween stars are happening here –

And going up on the design wall here!

Gathering of Quilters!
But I’d call it “Death by Curves!” LOL!
This quilter is much braver than I am! It’s going to be amazing and I’m looking forward to watching it grow over this coming weekend.

Tiny Trees seems appropriate with all of the Christmas Tree farms surrounding us!
Gathering of Quilters!
Can you see them on the hillside behind these Hawaiian shirt be-decked beauties?
Gathering of Quilters!
And I sense a theme happening here –
Gathering of Quilters!
All cut and kitted up and ready for retreat –

One lone tree standing tall!
I have something else to say about this wonderful group of friends –
Gathering of Quilters!
In 2019 (The year before Covid!) NSQG guild used my Wild & Goosey blocks to make their own donation quilt with their own setting – and it did really well for them.  I’m super pleased!
The paper-piecing of the blocks ensured that all of the blocks were the same size making the construction of the quilt easier.
Yesterday the friends presented me with this little commemorative quilt with even tinier blocks!

The label – sweet!

Check out the thread play flowers!!
Gathering of Quilters!
I may look less than whelmed, but I am overjoyed!
Can you see the little quilt at the top of the wall behind me?  I’m going to hang this one on the opposite wall in the same position.  There is room above design walls for little quilts.
I’m so happy and thrilled to display this mini – Thank you, Karen Snell!

Still in the blues.
I was able to finish the remainder of the solid blue string blocks I need yesterday.
And I also did something that took less than 2 minutes that I had been putting off.
I tend to cut in the middle of my mat, even though I tell myself to move around the mat.
I also am pretty good about keeping a sharp blade in my cutter, but you know what kills a sharp blade faster than anything else?
Cutting on a rough, carved up, heavily used place on the mat.
So I turned it around. This mat is large – so the side that was up at the window is now toward me and the rough area is moved toward the back.
My blade is already thanking me.
And when I rough up this side enough, I’ll flip the mat over and use the other side.
Have you rotated or flipped your mat lately?

Last night’s round of hexie stitching finished this motif!
One more in the done column.
(Still really liking this color combo!)
Up on deck for today:  I believe some of the ladies are going quilt shop hopping. I went a couple of weeks ago and really want to focus on getting these string blocks into a top so I’m going to wish them a good time and see them when they get back.
Weather is warming up a bit and we should be back near 80 today.  There will be porch time this afternoon.
Anything fun happening for your Friday?
