If there were one traditional pattern I could go back to
again and again and again and never make the same thing twice, I think that
pattern might just be a Log Cabin.

I love strong geometric designs along with the ability to
use up a bunch of random scraps and Log Cabin quilts just check all of my
boxes!

I named this quilt ‘Abundance’ due to the massive amounts
of scraps I used while making the main blocks, sawtooth sashings, and the
border blocks.

I focused mainly on using strips from my string buckets!

Those
scrappy strings and narrow strips?

They
are perfect for this project!

This pattern assumes that the maker has some experience
with foundation paper piecing and following a foundation paper piecing
template.

Yes, there is a Grinch in this block!

Along with my love of Log Cabins, comes my passion for
foundation paper piecing which results in not only perfectly perfect blocks,
but I can dig into my string bins and not have to cut individual skinny strips
in odd measurements to make these blocks work.

The curved appearance of the Abundance blocks is due to the strips on the neutral
side of the block being narrower than those on the colored side, resulting in
an off-center block that adds a slightly scalloped design to the whole quilt
layout.

The sawtooth sashings used many of the saved triangles
from doing stitch & flip snowball corners on previous projects. I was thrilled to have a project that would sew up all of those precious saved cut off corners.

Scour your scrap stash and see what you can use as far as
small pieces, saved triangles, and saved strips goes.

Unfortunately – or is it FORTUNATELY?
This quilt did not make a dent, so I guess I will have to keep sewing!

Scrappy back for the win!
Like all quilters who have been engaged in fabric acquisition for 40+ years – I have fabric I KNOW I never bought.  LOL! Or some that I will never admit to, anyway.
Quilts like this are perfectly at home with a super scrappy backing as a way to use up those large prints, especially ones that are directional that you know you just can’t cut small enough.  Let them shine on the back!

Abundance was machine quilted in an edge-to-edge design called Golden Curls by Apricot Moon Designs.
